MX Track Building
This is the first installment of our "Track Building" sessions. As we progress, we'll be updating RideAdventureTravel.com with the insights, techniques, strategies and 'toys' of the trade. We'll also upload a map of the proposed technical sections with an overview so the community can throw some ideas down.
We're starting out with an old track, that is going to be completely re-worked, literally from 'ground-up'. All of the existing clay and soil will be recycled to work up the new track. Where possible, we may incorporate existing sections, but only if it suits our intentions.
The grade/expertise level of the track is designed to have various lines, for various levels of expertise. ie: So a PRO Motocross/Supercross rider will be able to get a real kick out of it, and Joshua's 6 year old daughter can still fang around the track on her KTM 60, without free-falling off the back of a heavy kicker. One size fits most - an ambitious project to say the least, but not impossible if you have the space, the know-how, and the patience.
Phase 1 - MX Track Building Session
Clearing the new track sections. Mapping in the turns/burms/rails/speed sections ready for shaping and jump allocation. Making sure we have long sweeping fast sections, tight technical sections, and flowing rhythm sections.
Phase 2 - MX Track Building Session
Planning the sections in detail, staking them out and then dumping/shaping the clay to suit. Inside lines, outside lines, etc. Grooming each section to perfection. Many a walkthough and visualisation session required to get this stage nailed.
Phase 3 - MX Track Building Session
Test riding the track, then re-arranging sections to suit. The proof is in the riding. We're planning some very ambitious sectors, and there's bound to be some exhilirating (and painfully mis-judged) moments getting it right, but the pay-load will be there at the end of the day.
MX Track Builders for this project are the brothers: Josh & Dale (and 'Scruff' the Jack Russel aka "Chief Track Architect" supervising from atop the excavator). One thing to note is, we have a dam and pump ready to keep the dust down on those hectic, hot and dusty days. (We're also 'jumping the dam' - as part of the circuit). We always try to make use of the natural terrain (undulations, etc.) where possible.
Here's a very minimal select review of a one section of the old circuit:
These initial "Phase 1" (very early days) shots below were taken by the pit monster "Rennie", our resident RideAdventureTravel.com photographer. Rennie will be creating some exciting new sections on this website as we roll it out to full effect. (Rennie has toured the US/AU SX scenes and has some really exciting footage and interviews for the RAT community to enjoy, so stay tuned y'all).
